Join the IRC Chat! I am going to be upgrading my surround system in the next couple of months. I am waiting for Chane to come out with their 5.4 series of speakers. When I do that I am also going to upgrade my receiver. My current one is older and does not work with 4K so have to router everything through the TV and ARC which destroys the sound options.

I spend a good deal for DV/HDR10/DST:X/Atmos and plan to take full advantage of it. So question is, how big of a difference does that four vs. Two Atmos speakers make? I am decided on Audysee XT32. Two receivers that make the most sense are the Denon 3300 and 4300. 4300 is $200 more than the 3300 for the extra two channels of amplification. So, those that have had it is it worth it?

I am inclined to go with the 4300 just from the regret factor. I do not plan to upgrade anything but my surrounds for a long long time so this needs to last as much as possible. Rest of it is Vizio P65, LG UP970, HSU VTF3-MK5 (I love this sub!) and some crappy Polk surround speakers. LCR will be Chane A5.4 and an A2.4 center once they are available later this fall. I am initially planning to use SVS's Elevation speakers for the overhead channels.

Go with 4 height channels, it will help create more discrete sound. I have a 5.1.4 and though it's great and all, if speaker placement isn't ideal you won't be getting the best performance. My family also has 5.1.4 set up but we set it up as 7.1.2 and it sounds ok but again the placement is not ideal but just make sure you have plenty of source material because it's a lot of money to spend to only very rarely use it.

I'm just glad some Xbox one x games will have atmos but other than maybe mad max all other atmos tracks haven't been that awe inspiring. If I can suggest put more money in a receiver as speakers even if decent will impress. I have Sony cores and I previously had bowers and Wilkins and though there is a slight diff is sound, it's not worth 10x the cost. Best of luck post your setup.

Receivers output sound and transfer signal but most ppl using Dolby vision don't have dv receivers. Receivers unpack audio codecs and passthrough video while acting as the hub for the home AV setup. The firmware is just to be able to do the latter without running a 2nd HDMI cable directly to the display and retain the receivers OSD volume. It's no more a Dolby Vision receiver than it is a Dolby Atmos receiver or a Spotify receiver but still needs their software to be able to pass a signal. Seems more of a scam Well there's a few less expensive DV source players coming that don't have the second HDMI audio out. These owners would think the lack of the passthrough to be the scam not the addition of it plus I'd rather have a year old receiver with an updated HDMI spec than not.
